Just thought I would throw this out there to see what responses I get.  I'm just wondering how many people use what kind of knots.  Some of you may know what I use.  Loop to Loop.  And I know that some of you (Eben!) think I'm crazy.  I do it for a number of reasons.  But the most important is that I can use the same leader virtually all season.  When you loop a piece of 4X to a piece of 3X, about 95% of the time the 4X loop breaks and all you have to do is grab another piece of 4X tie a loop and connect it.  You almost never have to cut in to that 3X.  For me its fast and easy.  But when I have to do a full leader-ectomy, I will tie my 1X and 2X on with Blood Knots.  So write back and let me know what you use,  You don't have to explain why if you don't want.  Thanks.

I use a surgeon's knot.  because I am not insane. Grin  I like it because it is fast, easy, and strong.  And I am not interested in using the same leader all year...

I do think it is a matter of personal preference, though.  You have to use what works for you.  I have tried Slick's method, and I have tried others.  The Surgeon's knot works for me.

Hey Slick, I have to tell you that I have to side with Eben for Trout fishing, but I found a great use for your Loop to Loop !! Smiley As you know
I'm still fishing Salt( & dreaming of the West) . We are having a great run of Albicore with Spanish & Blues mixed in with them. I have been spending about half of my time re-tying as the spanish & Blues destroy your tippet & leader & the Albies won't hit wire. Well I tried the loop to loop for my tippet & pre - tied a dozen tandem glass minnow fly tippets with a loop connector. The fly is small enough to go through the loop so the entire tippet & fly goes on at once. What a difference !! Two min. after a cut-off I'm on another fish.

Thanks for the idea,

Mike M.

Hello Slick,  I have used a loop to loop for many years but more recently I use the surgeons knot. I have been fishing on the Dream stream here in Colorado and have had the loop system fail to many times, mostly because of the size of the trout.  Since I will be guiding this year the last thing I want is to have a knot fail on a good fish for my client.  Take care... Hi Slick,

I am a surgeon's knot guy also.   However, I could see where it could be beneficial to some people.  I am not too concerned about losing my leader.
