I have been fishing my way across the west this summer. Thought I would send in an update. Colorado was good overall but the stones on the Gunnison has to be the best....... except for landing a 19" bow on the South Fork of the White in the Flattops Wilderness. ( Rumor has it that you don't get fish over 14" on that river !!) Am now in Wy.  Had one of the best days on the water ever on Tuesday on the upper Green just inside the National forest boundary. Lost track of #'s but got Browns & Bows over 18 ... all on drys. Grey Drakes & Caddis will get you done.  Cheesy On my way to Cody now to fish the Clarks fork & North fork Shoshonee & into Yellowstone. Eben, glad to hear the park is fishing well. Will be there in about a week.

Good fishing,

Mike

Thanks guys, the sinking tip thing has always been a problem for me. I see a spare spool in my future but for now drys are the ticket so there isn't as much problem Grin I will try the aquaseal on my welded loop.

good fishing to all,

Mike

I used to just rub some floatant gel on the sinking area. Its a quick fix and works for a while, but I guess the best way to stop it all together would be to carry two spools one with a uniform or a sinking tip and the other loaded with a dry line. Also check for cracks in the welded loop if you have one and if not, and you just have a mono perfection loop hit the knott and the mainline butt with some aquaseal. The braided core whicks up water like a shamwow!

I don't.  Sad  Seems to be an issue with every fly line I have ever used, even the new welded loop lines.  Maybe whip on a small piece of indicator or foam or something on the end of the line?  Balance between castability and keeping the end of the line afloat better...

I've been doing a lot of deep nymphing in the AM followed by drys with a dropper in the afternoon. After 3-4 hrs of nymphing, my line tip starts sinking. I then have to stop fishing, clean & condition my line to effectively fish drys. Anyone have a solution for this ??

Troutkicker.  I was in sort of the same boat you were!  I left a lucrative career in the supermarket industry to become a guide.  I know it is a tough decision to up and leave a secure job with all the benefits and steady employment.  But to me, it was quality of life!  I took the plunge and attended Hubbard's Guide Academy in 2004 and never looked back!  I get to stay in one of the most beautiful places on earth and take people fishing......AND I GET PAID FOR IT!!!!!!!  I have to say Go for it!!!!
